Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit welcomed the announcement by mediators of an agreement to implement the first phase of the Gaza Peace Plan, describing it as “good news for our people in Gaza after two years of bloodshed and devastation.”
In a statement released Thursday, Aboul Gheit expressed hope that the efforts of the mediators would lead to the full implementation of the agreement, including the exchange deal and the withdrawal of Israeli forces. “We are hopeful that the mediators’ tireless efforts will succeed in completing and enforcing what has been agreed upon, for the benefit of the Palestinian people,” he said.
The Secretary-General extended his gratitude to the mediating countries — Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United States — for their “sincere and commendable efforts” to bring about this progress.
Aboul Gheit emphasized the importance of maintaining and strengthening the agreement, urging all parties to ensure its durability in the interest of lasting peace and stability in Gaza.
