On the 50th anniversary of Palestinian Land Day, the General Secretariat of the Arab League issued a stern call to the international community, specifically the UN Security Council, to fulfill its legal and moral obligations by exerting maximum pressure on Israeli occupation authorities to end their ongoing military aggression.
Commemorating 50 Years of Resistance
In a statement released by the Sector of Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories on Monday, March 30, 2026, the League noted that this year’s anniversary marks five decades since the historic 1976 uprising. That event saw Palestinian citizens within the 1948 territories protest the seizure of 21,000 dunams of land in the Galilee, an act of resistance that resulted in hundreds of casualties and arrests.
Escalating Settlement Expansion
The Arab League highlighted that Land Day 2026 arrives amid a dangerous escalation in settlement policies and resource theft. The statement condemned the continued systematic "Judaization" of Jerusalem, the restriction of access to holy sites—including the closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque—and the ongoing destruction of life in the Gaza Strip. These actions, the League stated, are a flagrant violation of international law and existing Security Council resolutions.
Call for a Sovereign State
The Secretariat emphasized that stability in the region is only possible through a two-state solution. It called for the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Tribute to Palestinian Resilience
Concluding its statement, the Arab League paid tribute to the Palestinian people for their steadfastness and "legendary resilience" in defending their national rights. The League reaffirmed its full support for the Palestinian struggle for freedom and independence, urging global powers to move beyond rhetoric and take concrete steps to dismantle the occupation.
