The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has reiterated the organization’s steadfast position in supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen. This was conveyed during a phone call received by Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Shaia Al-Zindani, from the Secretary-General of the Arab League. During the call, Aboul Gheit expressed his warm congratulations to Minister Al-Zindani on his appointment and wished him success in his new role.

Furthermore, Aboul Gheit reaffirmed the support for the legitimate government and all efforts aimed at realizing the aspirations of the Yemeni people, restoring security and stability throughout Yemen, addressing all aspects of the crisis, alleviating suffering, and achieving peace.

Dr. Shaia Al-Zindani expressed his appreciation for the noble sentiments shown by the Secretary-General of the Arab League, praising the positions and support of the Arab League for everything that enhances the means of joint Arab action and its consistent and principled stance on the situation in Yemen. This stance embodies the Arab consensus calling for peace and dialogue in Yemen and supporting the legitimate government to end the humanitarian suffering and restore state institutions.

The recent political situation in Yemen has seen some hopeful developments amidst ongoing challenges. The UN Special Envoy for Yemen highlighted steady progress in UN-mediated efforts to address the decade-long crisis initiated by the Houthi overthrow of the government in 2014. Despite the complex situation exacerbated by the Gaza war and military escalation in the Red Sea, there’s a concerted effort towards achieving a peace agreement. The dialogue continues with the internationally recognized government and Houthi rebels, showing a clear determination from all sides to reach a deal on humanitarian, economic measures, a permanent ceasefire, and resuming the Yemeni-led political process under UN auspices.
