The Arab League marked the 108th anniversary of the 1917 Balfour Declaration, denouncing it as a “catastrophic historical injustice” that led to the dispossession of the Palestinian people and the ongoing suffering caused by Israeli occupation.

In a statement, the League said the anniversary comes amid “a genocidal war” waged by Israel, the occupying power, in Gaza for two consecutive years, resulting in tens of thousands of civilian casualties, massive destruction, and the repeated displacement of nearly two million Palestinians.

It also condemned Israel’s continued “field executions, mass arrests, home demolitions, settler terrorism, land theft, and desecration of Christian and Islamic holy sites” in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.

Welcoming the United Kingdom’s recent decision to recognize the State of Palestine as a step toward correcting the “historic error” of the Balfour Declaration, the Arab League urged London to take further action to end Israel’s violations, uphold international law, and refrain from supporting the “colonial settlement system.”

The statement also called on the international community, particularly the UK, to intensify efforts for Gaza’s reconstruction, support Palestine’s full UN membership, and advance the two-state solution — establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders.
