The Arab League inaugurated today the First Arab Forum on Early Warning and Disaster Preparedness at its headquarters in Cairo, bringing together high-level representatives from Arab states, regional and international organizations, UN agencies, and disaster management experts.
Held under the theme “Together for Better Coordination and More Effective Response,” the forum addresses the growing frequency and severity of natural and man-made disasters in the Arab region, emphasizing early warning and preparedness as strategic priorities.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Khaled Al-Menzalawi, Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, highlighted the urgent need to shift from reactive disaster response to proactive prevention and early warning. He underscored the Arab League’s role in coordinating regional disaster risk reduction efforts through the 2030 Arab Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction and related initiatives.
Over two days, the forum will focus on enhancing early warning systems, integrating technology, sustainable financing, capacity building, and sharing best practices across the region.
