The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, under the aegis of its Energy Department, convened today the 16th Meeting of the Committee of Electricity Experts at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.
The session, attended by electricity experts representing member states, focused on two prominent items on its agenda: the establishment of the Pan-Arab Common Electricity Market and the peaceful applications of nuclear energy.
Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Malki, Director of the Economic Affairs Sector, welcomed the timing of the gathering, highlighting that several countries have now ratified the general agreement underpinning the Arab Common Electricity Market. He affirmed that the market is poised to enter into force imminently, signaling a major leap toward regional energy integration.
Dr. Al-Malki further emphasized the critical importance of establishing a dedicated secretariat for the Common Electricity Market along with its specialized committees to ensure proper governance and efficient operation of the market once activated.
