Arab League Condemns New Israeli Settlement Plan Near Jerusalem

Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit strongly condemned Israel’s decision to move forward with the controversial E1 settlement plan east of Jerusalem, describing it as a serious threat to the two state solution and to the prospects of establishing a viable and contiguous Palestinian state.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson Gamal Roshdy, Aboul Gheit warned that the project would deepen the fragmentation of the West Bank and undermine the geographical continuity essential for the future Palestinian state. He added that this initiative reflects a long held ambition of the Israeli far right, aimed at preventing the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

The Secretary General stressed that the international community must take firm action against this plan, reiterating that safeguarding the two state solution should remain a top priority, particularly at a time when the region continues to face violence and instability.

Aboul Gheit further stated that the approval of the E1 project once again exposes the expansionist and discriminatory policies of the current Israeli leadership, which, he argued, are systematically eroding the foundations of any just and lasting settlement to the conflict.
