The League of Arab States on Tuesday strongly condemned what it described as “horrific crimes” committed against civilians in El Fasher, Sudan, amid reports of escalating violence and a worsening humanitarian crisis following the withdrawal of armed forces from the city.

In a statement, the Cairo-based organization expressed deep concern over developments in El Fasher, citing United Nations and media reports of atrocities against trapped civilians, including women, children, and the elderly.

The League called for “an immediate and complete cessation of hostilities” and urged the Rapid Support Forces to lift their siege on the city, which has lasted for more than two years despite U.N. Security Council Resolution 2736 (2024) demanding its end.

The Arab League reiterated its demand for the protection of civilians, the safe departure of those wishing to leave the city, and the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to El Fasher and its surroundings. It also called for accountability for all those responsible for the violations.
