The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said on Saturday it carried out 27 operations in the last 24 hours against Houthi militias in the central Marib province.

The raids led to the killing of over 90 terrorists and the destruction of 13 armored vehicles, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported, citing the coalition.

It comes in “response to the threat and military necessity to protect civilians from hostile attacks.”

In 2014, the Yemeni civil war began when the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa, 120 kilometres west of Marib, prompting Saudi-led forces to intervene to prop up the government the following year.

Tens of thousands of people have died and millions have been displaced in what the United Nations has called the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
