Tourism and Antiquities Minister Khaled El Anany said on Tuesday Egypt received 500,000 tourists on November 14 since the resumption of the inbound tourism in July.

In statements to SEE, Anany pointed out Egypt saw the highest boom in the number of tourists in January and February this year before the coronavirus crisis with an increase of 8.1%, compared to the figures in 2019.

The minister noted that Egyptian tourism lost large portions of its main tourism markets, like Europe and the Arab region, due to the lockdown.

He recalled that he was so surprised that the first tourist flight to Sharm El-Sheikh on July 1 had returned home safely without reporting any coronavirus case among the group.

Earlier yesterday, he handed over 65 coins to the Saudi ambassador in Cairo, 31 Chinese coins to China's ambassador, and four Indian coins to the political attaché of India's Embassy in Cairo on the occasion of the 118th anniversary of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square.
