“El-Hadaba” Amr Diab will resume acting after a 27-year hiatus with an Arabic original series for Netflix.

The production, currently untitled, will be a musical drama, which is under development.

“I am thrilled to work with Netflix on this new project. I have always believed that art is a global language, and we have been able to build bridges of connections and love with perse cultures through music," Diab said.

The bestselling artist expressed his excitement that the project will be reaching more than 193 million members in more than 190 countries around the world, where they will be able to watch new content made in Egypt and enjoyed by the world.

“For the past 30 years, Amr Diab has captured people’s hearts all over the world. He is a trendsetting icon who resonates with different generations through his music and talent. We are confident that this new project will excite fans and members for the glorious return of Amr Diab to screen.” said Ahmed Sharkawi, director of Arabic Original Series at Netflix.

Diab's last acting role was in 1993 film “Dehk Wa Le'b Wa Gad Wa Hob” (Laughter, Games, Seriousness, and Love), alongside international Egyptian star Omar Sharif and prominent Egyptian actress Yousra.

The film was his third and last acting role. The megastar co-starred in two other films “El Afareet”, and “Ice Cream in Gleam”.

The bestselling artist co-starred as himself in his first film, “El Afareet” — released in 1989 — with prominent Egyptian actress, Madiha Kamel.

In 1992, he starred in his second film “Ice Cream in Gleam”, which was chosen as one of the best five Egyptian musical films by the “UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television”.

Despite the films’ success, Diab did not experience the same level of success in acting as he had with his music.

He has focused on his singing career since 1993.

On the other hand, Diab is preparing to release soon a new music video, “Amakan El Sahar”, which features El Sherbiny in Diab’s music video for the first time as well as a number of his friends.

The 58-year-old singing legend had recently finished recording the song in complete secrecy.

The music video was filmed in Hacienda Bay, in the North Coast.

The song is by the lyrics of Tamer Hussein, composed by Aziz El-Shafei, and distributed by Tarek Madkour, and directed by Ahmed El-Naggar.

Recently, the 58-year-old singing legend released a new music video, “Ya Baladna Ya Helwa”, which featured him in several tourist attractions, including scenes from on top of a Nile fountain, highlighting the country’s charm, civilization, and historical buildings.

It is worth mentioning that Diab, born on October 11, 1961, is an Egyptian multi-award-winning pop singer-songwriter.

The 58-year-old singing legend is known to fans as El-Hadaba. He has created his own style, which is often termed “Mediterranean Music”, a blend of Western and Egyptian rhythms.

Diab became the first Arabic artist to start making high-tech music videos by 1992. His fame in the entertainment industry has led him to experiment with other forms of media, such as film-making.
