Amnesty International said on Friday that the Israeli military units bombing Gaza are equipped with white phosphorus shells.
The organization said, on its account on the “X” platform, “Our Crisis Evidence Laboratory has verified that the Israeli military units striking Gaza are equipped with white phosphorus artillery shells.”
“We are investigating what appears to be the use of white phosphorus in Gaza, including in a raid that took place near a hotel on the beach in the city,” the organization added.
The organization pointed out that “white phosphorus is an incendiary substance that is often used to create a dense smoke screen or to mark targets.
That substance burns at very high temperatures when exposed to air and can continue to burn inside flesh. It also causes horrific pain and life-altering injuries and cannot be extinguished with water.”
The statement of the organization added, "Therefore, it is never permissible to use white phosphorus in civilian areas. Gaza is considered one of the most densely populated areas in the world."
