American Music Awards 2022: Complete Winners List

The 50th American Music Awards, celebrating the year’s best music and performances as voted on by fans, took place on Sunday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. 

The star-studded event was hosted by American TV personality Wayne Brady.

Puerto Rican performer Bad Bunny led the pack of nominees with eight nods, including his first-ever for artist of the year. He ended up taking home two awards – for favorite male Latin artist and favorite Latin album, for “Un Verano Sin Ti”.

However, the night belonged to Taylor Swift who won in all six categories for which she was nominated, including artist of the year, the night’s top honor. The wins cemented Swift as the most decorated artist in AMA's history, with 40 wins.

Pop singer Pink opened the show by dancing and singing on roller skates to her upbeat song "Never Gonna Not Dance Again". Later in the ceremony, she performed "Hopelessly Devoted to You" in a tribute to Olivia Newton-John, the "Grease" singer who died in August.

Other performers during the night include Bebe Rexha, David Guetta, Dove Cameron, GloRilla, Lil Baby, Carrie Underwood, Imagine Dragons, Anitta, J.I.D, Yola, and DJ D-Nice.

Lionel Richie, a 17-time AMA winner, was honored with the Icon Award for his career contributions to the music industry. Charlie Puth, Stevie Wonder, and other artists gave a heartfelt tribute performance for Richie.

Elton John took home his first AMA win since 1988 for best collaboration with Dua Lipa, becoming the longest-recognized artist in the awards show’s history. (He was first nominated for an AMA in 1974.)

Cameron, a former Disney Channel actress who reached the Billboard charts this year with the pop single "Boyfriend," was named best new artist.

This year’s awards show introduced some new categories this year, including favorite afrobeats artist, K-pop Artist, rock song, and rock album, while favorite touring artist and soundtrack made a comeback after being excluded during the pandemic.
