Turkish Ambassador to Egypt Salih Mutlu Şen participated in the opening ceremony of the inaugural StoneAfrica exhibition, currently being held at the Cairo International Convention and Exhibition Center. The event brings together 92 global companies specializing in marble and granite, including 30 leading Turkish firms — a notable presence that reflects Turkey’s standing as home to approximately 42% of the world’s marble reserves.
During his visit, Ambassador Şen toured the booths of the Turkish companies exhibiting at the event and held discussions with their representatives about their current activities in Egypt and their future business aspirations. He noted that for the majority of these firms, this was their first participation in an Egyptian trade exhibition, and that they expressed strong interest in expanding their operations in the promising Egyptian market.
Turkish marble has earned a distinctive reputation in Egypt, where it is often imported in cut form for local processing, after which it is either sold within Egypt or re-exported to international markets. Given its unique quality — notably its low heat retention — Turkish marble is particularly suitable for Egypt and the Gulf region’s climates, similar to the famously cool marble used in the courtyard of the Grand Mosque in Mecca.
The ambassador highlighted that the growing demand and favorable climate conditions are likely to attract new Turkish investments in marble manufacturing in the coming period. He also noted that Egypt holds a key position in the global granite industry, making it a natural partner for further cooperation and investment.
