Amazon is reportedly working on developing a standalone app for sports content to add a new revenue stream, according to media outlets.

This came after Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced that the firm will continue to invest in live sports.

A report by The Information indicated that the standalone platform aligns with Amazon's effort to double down on sports programming through its Prime Video service.

Notably, Amazon owns the rights to stream games from events; such as the National Football League's Thursday Night Football franchise and Premier League soccer matches in the UK.

Jassy called live sports “a unique asset” and pointed out that the company will continue to invest in that space. Amazon has also invested in other sports content, including original sports talk shows.

As per Reuters, the American audience is increasingly switching from pay TV subscriptions to streaming apps.

Google’s YouTube recently secured the rights to stream the NFL Sunday Ticket and Apple struck a deal to live stream Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer games.
