Amazon.com Inc., the American technology and e-commerce giant, has decided to cut hundreds of jobs in the cloud computing sector, including sales and marketing personnel, and the team developing technologies used in physical stores.

A spokesperson for Amazon Web Services (AWS), the company's cloud computing division, stated, "We have identified a few areas within the organization where we need to simplify our structure to continue focusing our efforts on our strategic areas where we believe we will have the greatest impact."

The spokesperson added that the company would try to find new positions for those affected by the job cuts.

According to Bloomberg News Agency, the growth rate of Amazon Web Services (AWS), the largest cloud computing services and data storage leasing company, has slowed to a record low this year due to spending cuts by client companies and the postponement of technology upgrade projects.

The recent waves of layoffs come about a year after AWS implemented its largest-ever job-cutting spree as part of a cost-cutting plan, which saw around 27,000 jobs eliminated across the Amazon group.

This move follows a hiring surge during the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw exceptional growth for e-commerce and technology companies.
