All You Need to Know about New COVID-19 Strain "Heihe"

A few days ago, China officially announced detecting a new COVID-19 strain, "Heihe," therefore, the name of the new variant trended all social media platforms, and google search lists, so, this article tackles what is available about "Heihe" until now.

Regarding the name of the new variant, "Heihe" carries the name of the first region it was detected in, in addition, the Chinese authorities described it as the most dangerous COVID-19 mutation until now.

Chinese authorities had to impose a lockdown on the whole city to control the surge of infections and to prevent the new variant from emerging in the whole country, especially amid winter.

In the same context, authorities set rewards of 100,000 yuan to residents who can provide them with important information and clues regarding the strain after recording 240 infections on Sunday.

In an official announcement, officials said: "It is hoped that the general public could actively cooperate with the tracing of the virus and provide clues to the probe."

In addition, since October 1st, all imported goods, and frozen food purchased by the residents were sent to the region's Center for Disease Control and Prevention for testing them.

Until now, the new variant is still under investigation and observation to identify its ability to transmission and infection, however, it could be classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a variant of interest such as Delta, and Lambda.

It is worthy to mention that the latest announced variant by the local authorities was "Mu."
