This morning, Algeria's President Abdel Majid Tebboune appointed Major General Omar Tlemsani as the new commander for the fourth military region of Ouargla with the state of Libya.

A statement released by the Algerian presidency stated that President Tebboune assigned General Tlemsani to lead the military region, which includes the majority of the provinces bordering with Libya, and its headquarters are in the state of Ouargla, as well as 7 other provinces, which are: Biskra, Laghouat, the valley, Ghardaia, Elysee, Jant.

Major General Omar Tlemsani has held several high and sensitive positions in the Algerian army, the most recent of which is the Chief of Staff of the Land Forces, the backbone of the Algerian armed forces, in addition to his leadership in the third military region of Bechar Province (southwest).

The new commander at the borders with Libya will have a difficult task, that is securing the vast borders with the eastern neighbor whose length exceeds 900 km from the terrorist threats that Turkey brought to the Libyan West, which has become a greater threat to the national security of Algeria.

In addition, he will have to deal with the fact that military bases have been captured by Erdogan's mercenaries near the Algerian border, especially "Al-Wattia" base, which is only 600 km from the Algerian border.

Since several years ago, Algeria had sealed its borders with Libya and adopted a state of maximum alert, which was increased already at the beginning of this year, following the terrorist and military threats by Turkey in the neighbouring Libya.
