The Algeria national football team continue to fine-tune their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as the Algerian Football Federation works to secure high-profile friendly matches ahead of the global tournament.

After finalizing their March training camp schedule with friendlies against Guatemala and Uruguay, Algeria are now focusing on arranging two additional warm-up fixtures during the final international break in June, just before the World Cup kicks off.

The federation has already secured a summer friendly against the Netherlands national football team, set to be played in Amsterdam.

However, the second opponent remains undecided, with talks centered around a potential clash with the Italy national football team.

Concerns persist over the feasibility of facing Italy. Should the Azzurri fail to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, they may opt against traveling to the United States for the proposed friendly against Algeria, who are expected to base part of their preparations there.

According to Algerian media reports, the federation has opened discussions with The Football Association to organize a friendly against the England national football team should the Italy fixture fall through.

A showdown with England would represent an even sterner test for Algeria. Led by captain Harry Kane, the Three Lions have consistently challenged for top honors in recent international tournaments, contrasting with Italy’s struggles in recent years, including missing the last two World Cups.

Algeria and England last met during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, where the two sides played out a goalless draw.

As preparations intensify, Algeria are aiming to measure themselves against Europe’s elite in order to arrive at the 2026 World Cup fully primed for competition.
