Alexandria's Deputy Governor Contracts Coronavirus

Alexandria Governorate on Sunday announced that Alexandria's deputy governor Ahmed Ahmed Gamal, and the Governor adviser Major General Hamdi Al Hashash have tested positive for coronavirus.

In a statement, the Governorate said that they have been infected as they were in contact with Major General Mohamed Sahloul, Head of the Rapid Intervention Unit, who previously diagnosed with the respiratory disease.

The statement added that the two officials are in a stable condition and are now receiving the proper treatment.

Meanwhile, Alexandria's governor Major General Mohamed El Sharif, Governor of Alexandria returned to his work once again as he denied that he contacted Sahloul, confirming that he spent Eid al-Fitr vacation outside the governorate.

"I am in a good condition and I have not contacted Major General Mohamed Sahloul," the governor said.

On Thursday, Alexandria Governorate announced that Major General Mohamed Sahloul has tested positive for the virus, stressing that all precautionary and preventative measures have been taken towards all of those, who were in contact with him.

It is worth mentioning that Egypt registered on Saturday 1,367 new coronavirus cases, the highest daily record so far, bringing the total cases to 23,449.

"Thirty-four more deaths were confirmed; raising the total number to 913," Khaled Megahed, the Health Ministry’s spokesman, said in a statement.

"Up to 5,693 coronavirus patients have recovered so far," the spokesman said.

"As many as 182 Egyptians were among the recovered patients today," he added.
