Tottenham Hotspur announced that Alex Morgan, the US professional who won two World Cup titles, has ended a loan period with the team and will return to the United States.
Morgan joined the north London side in September from Orlando Pride in a bid to restore her form after the birth of her baby in May.
Experts considered that the accession of the 31-year-old player is a strong addition to Tottenham, but the attacker, who scored 107 goals with the US national team, played only 5 matches and scored two goals in the Barclays FA Women's Super League, where the team ranks eighth among 12 teams in the standings.
Head of Women's Football Heather Cowan said: “We were delighted at the start of the season when Alex chose us as her Club to help regain fitness and take her first steps back into competitive football after giving birth earlier this year,"
“It has been a pleasure to have Alex with us during this period and the whole squad has taken a lot from working every day with someone at the top of the women's game,"
“We wish Alex all the best for the future both at club and international level as she prepares to return back home with her family. She will always be welcome here at Spurs.”
Meanwhile, Alex said: “I will be forever grateful to the Club, my team-mates and Spurs supporters for taking such good care of me and my family,"
“From the moment I arrived in London, I realised I was part of a first-class organisation, one that helped provide me the opportunity to immerse myself back into the game I love,"
“Thank you to everyone who helped make this chapter in my soccer journey so special... COYS.” she concluded.
Tottenham struggled in the Women's League this season and sacked the coaching staff last month, when they occupied the penultimate position and Rehanne Skinner took over the post.
The club then tasted victory, as Morgan scored twice under the leadership of the former England national team assistant coach.
Morgan's last appearance was in the 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on December 13, when she scored the opening goal from a penalty kick.
