Carlos Alcaraz has officially reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings, ending Jannik Sinner’s 65-week stay at the top.
The Spaniard secured the return with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Sinner in Sunday’s U.S. Open final at Arthur Ashe Stadium, earning his second title in New York and sixth Grand Slam overall.
“When you achieve the goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the year, it feels amazing,” Alcaraz said after lifting the trophy. “For me, to achieve that once again is a dream.”
Alcaraz first became world No. 1 in September 2022 at just 19 years old, the youngest in ATP history, before surrendering the position a year later.
His latest triumph restores him to the top of the sport, swapping places with Sinner, who slips to No. 2.
Alexander Zverev held steady at No. 3, while Novak Djokovic climbed three places to No. 4.
On the women’s side, Aryna Sabalenka retained her WTA No. 1 spot after defending her U.S. Open crown with a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win over Amanda Anisimova.
The 24-year-old American reached a career-high No. 4 after her second straight Grand Slam runner-up finish, following a breakthrough Wimbledon run in July.
Iga Swiatek remains at No. 2, with Coco Gauff at No. 3. Jessica Pegula dropped from No. 4 to No. 7 after her semifinal loss to Sabalenka.
