Albania President Meets Sisi, Visits Cairo Citadel (Photos)

CAIRO, Feb. 27 (SEE) – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El- Sisi received his Albanian counterpart Ilir Meta at Ettahadiya Presidential Palace on Wednesday. Meta later paid a visit to the Saladin Citadel of Cairo on the sideline of his visit to Egypt."Sisi and Meta will hold a press conference after concluding their official talks in Cairo," Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady said in a statement.

On the other hand, Head of Islamic, Coptic and Jewish Antiquities Sector Gamal Moustafa said, “Albania’s president and his accompanying delegation visited Mohamed bin Qalaoun Mosque and expressed great interest in its unique architectural style of Mamalik era."

Moustafa pointed out that Meta and the delegation toured the Castle’s Panorama and the police museum.

"They also visited the Mosque of Muhammad Ali and were briefed about the development of architecture in the castle as being a military citadel," Moustafa noted.

“The tour ended with a visit to the tomb of Mohammed Ali, and the hearing of the president and his accompanying delegation to some of the religious songs performed by Sheikh Saeed al-Refaei.”

Moustafa added that the guests expressed their keenness to learn a lot about what they saw in the castle.

“The Albanian president also thanked the archeological staff and the Ministry of Antiquities for its efforts to preserve the monuments and heritage of civilized Egypt throughout the ages,” Moustafa added.

Meta promised that he will re-visit the Citadel soon in the company of his family.

Mohamed El Menshawy, director-general of the Citadel Affairs, explained to them the exhibits of the museum which recorded the history of the Egyptian police and the weapons used by the security forces throughout the ages. The museum also includes list of the most prominent political crimes, notably the attempt to assassinate President Gamal Abdel Nasser and the weapon used in the attempt.
