Al Suwaihli SC made history on Saturday by winning the Libyan Premier League title for the first time after defeating Al-Nasr Benghazi 4-3 on penalties in the championship final.
The final, played at Cairo International Stadium, ended 1-1 after regular time. Al-Suwaihli took the lead in the 65th minute when Ayoub Ayad converted a penalty, but Al-Nasr struck back late in the match through Yahya, who also scored from the spot to force a shootout.
With the teams unable to be separated after 90 minutes, the title was decided on penalties, where Al-Suwaihli kept their composure to secure a 4-3 victory and claim the biggest achievement in the club's history.
The 2025-26 Libyan Premier League season featured 36 teams before being narrowed down through a championship phase that ultimately produced the final between Al Suwaihli and Al-Nasr.
As league champions, Al-Suwaihli will represent Libya in next season's CAF Champions League alongside runners-up Al-Nasr Benghazi, marking a memorable end to a historic campaign for the club.
