An abandoned house on a small island named Al-Shakhloba, in the heart of Lake Burullus, made the island an attractive spot.

Al-Shakhloba is one of the villages in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, and its one of the 1st Egyptian villages that has a 0% unemployment rate, as its people work in fishing and selling fish to the traders daily, according to the Egypt State Information Service.

The village came into light in 2017, after a picture was shared by Egyptian photographer Adel Bayoumi, for a lonely house surrounded by trees inside Lake Burullus; it won 1st rank in the "Wiki Loves the Earth" competition, affiliated to the Wikipedia encyclopedia.

This photo aroused the curiosity of Egyptian photographer Ahmed Abdel Tawab, who sought during his visiting to the village in October last year, to explore this house that built on a very small island in Lake Burullus.

Abdel Tawab decided to visit the village of Al-Shakhloba in order to document these strange and distinct houses and discover the reason for its existence,  and to know about the life of the residents in this area.

According to Abdel Tawab interview's with CNN, he explained that these houses were used as fish shops, where fishermen are earning their daily bread from fishing trips. Now, Al Shakhlouba people are using these homes for a picnic, relaxation and spending time amidst the wonderful nature.

Al Shakhlouba people are looking forward to making the village a prominent global tourist destination, this pushed me to take pictures and share them on social media platforms in order to introduce the place to the whole world, Abdel Tawab added.
