Al Sadd have been officially crowned champions of the Qatar Stars League after Al Shamal’s 2-0 defeat to Qatar SC in a rescheduled match from round 17 on Monday.
Qatar SC secured a decisive victory with two early goals. Ahmed Al Rawi opened the scoring in the 7th minute before Joao Pedro doubled the lead in the 18th minute, putting Al Shamal under immediate pressure.
Despite Qatar SC being reduced to ten men after Ali Al Saadi’s sending off deep into first-half stoppage time, Al Shamal failed to mount a comeback.
The result leaves Al Shamal on 37 points, while Al Sadd move to an unassailable 42 points with one match remaining.
The outcome confirms the title for Al Sadd SC, who retain their status as league champions after a season-long battle at the top.
Al Shamal, featuring Egyptian midfielder Akram Tawfik, are unable to close the gap in the final standings.
