Egypt's Al Masry made an ideal start to their adventure in the Confederation Cup by demolishing Malindi 4-1 in the away game on Sunday.
Forward Mahmoud Wadi produced a hat-trick as Al Masry have partially booked their place in the upcoming round. Wadi had put his side ahead after only 27 minutes before Hassan Ali doubled the scoring in the 32nd minute.
Eight minutes later, Wadi added the third for the Egyptian side. Malindi's player revived his side's hope in the game by netting the first goal in the 43rd minute.
Wadi scored his hat-trick in the 52nd minute to seal the victory. Ihab Galal's men will play their second leg either on September 27, 28 or 29.
Al Masry are taking part in this tournament as they finished fourth in the Egyptian Premier League.
Ihab Galal is one of the five candidates that are in the running to lead the Pharaohs. Galal said on Saturday that the negotiations related to lead the Pharaohs are ongoing.
“There are negotiations with the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) concerning leading the Egyptian National team,” Galal said in a press conference.
“There are some details in the negotiations, most notably getting the approval from El-Masry’s management,” he noted.
“I am concentrating now on my club to make a perfect start to our campaign in the Confederation Cup,” the former Zamalek manager added.
