Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club issued a statement announcing the filing of a complaint against referee Mustafa El-Shahady, who officiated the team's match against Al-Ahly on Wednesday in the league. The club demands that El-Shahady not be assigned to the team's upcoming matches.
The club's statement reads as follows:
The Board of Directors of Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club expresses its deep dissatisfaction and full condemnation of the significant refereeing errors committed by referee Mustafa El-Shahady in the team's recent match against Al-Ahly, which directly impacted the final result of the match.
The referee awarded an incorrect penalty kick after being called from the VAR room due to the ball hitting our player Abdulghani Mohammed's hand. Everyone who watched the match saw that our player Abdulghani Mohammed's hand was not extended and was within the confines of his body, and that the position of our player's hand that touched the ball was normal compared to his body position. He did not intentionally touch the ball. This penalty kick was a direct cause of changing the course of the match, a scene that raises major questions about the level and standards of refereeing.
The statement continued: "Continuing the completely unsuccessful refereeing decisions made by the match referee, without any justification, the referee unjustifiably expelled team captain Karim El-Deeb, simply for speaking to him within the framework of his natural role as team captain, which is an inherent right for any captain on the field. This confirms the bad intentions and lurking on the part of the match referee. Meanwhile, the match referee turned a blind eye to any more severe objection from the opposing team's players, confirming the existence of double standards and unfairness in the management of the match.
He added: Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club affirms that it has always stood by Egyptian refereeing as an essential element within the football system, and that its continued support and assistance is in the interest of all elements of the game. Despite the Al-Ittihad Alexandria team being exposed to many refereeing errors, both this season and previous seasons, Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club was content to draw attention and point out these errors in the hope that they would not be repeated and that they were not deliberate. The continuation of this low level of a fundamental element in the Egyptian football system, which is refereeing, will lead to... It is likely to lead to unforeseen disasters. Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club demands an investigation into yesterday's refereeing farce and an announcement of the results. Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club also demands that the main referees committee not assign any future matches involving Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club to referee Mustafa Shehady.
