Al-Dabaiba Clings to power, Vows to Defend Tripoli

Abdel Hamid al-Dabaiba, head of the interim Libyan "unity" government, said that there is the only solution to the power struggle with the government of rival Fathi Bashagha, is an election.

He added that his government which is backed by the House of Representatives, except to hold parliamentary elections by next June, pledging to defend the capital, Tripoli if it is attacked.

Dibaba went on to say, in a meeting organized in his hometown of Misurata (west), that the main goal of his government is to hold elections and hand over power to an elected government.

He stressed that his government wants a civil state without soldiers or rioters."

He affirmed the readiness of the Ministry of Interior and the High Electoral Commission to hold elections.
