AL chief condemns Israeli occupation’s steps toward annexing Palestinian lands in the West Bank

Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit condemned on Thursday the Israeli Knesset’s steps toward annexing occupied Palestinian lands in the West Bank and urged the international community to firmly oppose these extremist moves.

The AL's secretary-general called on the international community and the countries that signed the New York Declaration on the implementation of the two-state solution to firmly confront these extremist Israeli tendencies.

Official Spokesperson for the AL's Secretary-General Jamal Rushdi quoted Abul Gheit as affirming that silence would encourage further settlement expansion.

Rushdi reiterated the necessity of activating the sanction policies and economic boycotts against all settlement activities in Israel so that a unified message is delivered that annexation is globally rejected and will not pass.

Aboul Gheit also welcomed the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion, which holds Israel responsible for ensuring aid to Gaza and condemns the use of starvation and forced displacement as violations of international law.
