Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayeb offered his sincere condolences to Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria, Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, and to Coptic Christians, in the incident of the murder of Arsanios Wadid, priest of the Church of the Virgin and Marpols in Alexandria.

The Grand Imam stressed that killing is a major sin that requires God’s punishment in the hereafter. "God said that made killing a person is the same as killing all people. The Almighty said: "Whoever kills a soul without a soul or corruption in the land, it is as if he killed all people, and whoever saves it, saved all people."

El-Tayeb added that such incidents ignite religious wars between the citizens of the one nation, especially after Egypt was saved from such wars due to God's grace and the vigilance of its people and leaders. "Everyone is called upon to be alert to such a scheme."

Al-Azhar Al-Sharif extended its sincere condolences to the family of Archbishop, and all the Christians, asking God to protect Egypt, and to perpetuate the blessings of security and safety on its people.
