His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders has received Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, along with a high-level delegation including Zambry Abdul Kadir, Malaysia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and several members of the Malaysian Parliament, to discuss avenues for enhancing mutual cooperation.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister of Malaysia extended an official invitation to the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, to visit Malaysia while emphasizing that the Malaysian people eagerly await His Eminence’s visit.

Ibrahim also highlighted that Al-Azhar stands as the largest Islamic institution in the world, which also serves as a focal point for Malaysian students seeking to study Islamic jurisprudence and the Arabic language.

The Grand Imam warmly welcomed the invitation from the Prime Minister of Malaysia and expressed his intention to accept it in the coming year.

He further affirmed that Al-Azhar shares deep-rooted academic connections with Malaysia, with the exchange of scholars and visiting students constituting a cornerstone of this historic relationship.

His Eminence also emphasized that Al-Azhar places its trust in its Malaysian students and graduates to spread moderate values of fraternity, coexistence, and acceptance of others.

For his part, the Prime Minister of Malaysia also expressed his appreciation for the significant role played by His Eminence the Grand Imam in supporting the causes of the Islamic world and his efforts in promoting global peace, fraternity, and coexistence, as well as presenting the true image of the Islam and refuting the ideologies of extremist and radical groups.
