On Thursday, Nasr City Misdemeanor Court sentenced Al Ahly player Hussein El Shahat to one year in prison with a three-year suspension. The court also ordered El Shahat to pay 100,000 EGP in civil compensation and barred him from holding membership in any sports organization for five years. This ruling follows the accusation of assaulting Pyramids player, Moroccan national Mohamed El Shaibi, during a match between their teams.
The incident traces back to a heated football match between Pyramids and Al Ahly in the Premier League. According to police investigations, El Shahat physically attacked and verbally abused El Shaibi in front of millions of viewers. The altercation was widely broadcast and shared across various social media platforms.
In his complaint, El Shaibi accused El Shahat of bullying, assault, verbal abuse, defamation, intimidation, and threats of physical harm. The public circulation of videos depicting the slapping incident further compounded the psychological and physical distress experienced by El Shaibi.
