Egypt’s Al-Ahly SC announced earlier today that defender Saad Samir will be out of action for eight months due to suffering a tear in his Achilles tendon.

The 30-year old player has sustained the injury in his side’s game against Zimbabwe’s Platinum yesterday in the third round of the group stages of the African Champions League.

Samir was injured in the 14th minute of the match; he was carried off the field on the players ’cart, and then Rami Rabiaa participated in the 17th minute instead.

This huge blow came few weeks after the player suffered a partial ACL injury in April 2019 and has been ruled for eight months.

Samir is set to travel to Germany to undergo a surgery in his Achilles tendon.

It is noteworthy that the Red Giants defeated Platinum 2-0, raising their balance to 6 points, equal to the Tunisian Club Esperance and the Sudanese Hilal, while Platinum remained without points in fourth place.

Ahmed El-Shaikh wasted a chance early on for El-Ahly in the fourth minute after penetrating through the defence, wasting a chance on goal.

Walid Soliman gave El-Ahly the lead in the 8th minute with a header after Ali Maaloul sent a cross from the left side, which was received by the veteran player with a header in the net of Platinum.
