Al Ahly centre-back Badr Benoun is reportedly close to joining Qatar Sports Club in the summer transfer window.

Benoun has been an integral part of Al Ahly’s defensive lineup since arriving in Cairo and instantly became a fan favourite.

However, the 28-year-old has not featured since the start of this year after suffering an injury that kept him sidelined for months.

With just 11 appearances this season, Benoun fell down the pecking order to Yasser Ibrahim, Mohamed Abdelmonem, Ayman Ashraf, and Rami Rabia.

Recent reports revealed that Qatar Sports Club reportedly submitted a bid of $2.5m to acquire the player’s services, which could rise up to $3m with bonuses.

His current deal runs until the summer of 2024 and Al Ahly were also said to be open to cashing in on Benoun following a surprisingly lacklustre season from the Moroccan defender.
