Al Ahly’s playmaker Nasser Maher has been ruled out of the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup due to injury.
Al Ahly will take part in their 6th Club World Cup after beating arch rivals Zamalek in the 2019/20 CAF Champions League final.
Other teams that have already secured their spot in the competition are European champions Bayern Munich, Ulsan Hyundai of South Korea, New Zealand’s Auckland City, and Qatari hosts Al Duhail.
And the Reds will head into the tournament without their playmaker Maher after he sustained a shoulder injury against Misr El-Makkasa.
Maher, who is a product of Al Ahly youth system, spent last season out on loan at Smouha and excelled with the Alexandrian club before returning back this season.
He featured in the Egypt Cup final as well as the Premier League opener in which he injured his shoulder as he is set to be sidelined for two months.
Maher becomes the second Al Ahly player to be confirmed out of the tournament alongside Junior Ajayi, who is out for a few months with an ankle injury.
The 2020 FIFA Club World Cup will be the 17th edition of the tournament and is scheduled to be hosted by Qatar between February 1-11.
