Al Ahly honored on Tuesday their former head coach Martin Lasarte before leaving Egypt.

The Red Devils' president Mahmoud El-Khatib sacked Lasarte following Al Ahly defeat against Pyramids FC in Egypt Cup on Saturday. The club asserted that Lasarte's future was discussed at a meeting on Sunday afternoon as part of a review of the season.

Al Ahly’s board of directors and players thanked the Uruguayan, who guided Ahly to this year's Egyptian Premier League title with a game to spare, and his assistants for their time at the club.

Lasarte was appointed as Ahly coach in December 2018 replacing Frenchman Patrice Carteron. Mohamed Youssef took charge of the team until signing a new foreign technical director.

Al-Ahly claimed their fourth Egyptian Premier League title in a row and their 41st domestic trophy overall with one game to spare on July 24.

The Egyptian League champions made an ideal start to their adventure in CAF Champions League by hammering Sudan’s Etlaa Bara with unanswered four goals in the preliminary stage.

Youssef will lead the Red Devils against Etlaa Bara in the second leg of the tournament on Friday, August 23 at 20:00 CLT.
