Al Ahly SC has submitted an official complaint to the Egyptian Football Association against referee Mahmoud Wafa following the club’s recent league match against Ceramica Cleopatra, alleging serious refereeing errors and demanding a formal investigation.

In its complaint, Al Ahly said officiating mistakes continue to undermine the integrity of the domestic competition, describing the referee’s decisions during the match as “blatant errors” that directly affected the result.

The club argued that a clear penalty in its favor was not awarded and accused the referee of inappropriate conduct toward players, including verbal and physical misconduct.

Al Ahly formally requested access to the audio recording of the conversation between the on-field referee and the VAR officials during the review of the disputed penalty incident.

The club said the request is in line with international standards of transparency and referenced previous remarks by refereeing committee chairman Oscar Ruiz, who stated that clubs have the right to access such recordings upon payment of the required fees. Al Ahly affirmed its willingness to pay the relevant charges immediately.

The club also demanded an investigation into what it described as arbitrary decisions taken by the referee against its players after the match, alleging that his conduct included threats and unacceptable behavior toward members of the team.

In addition, Al Ahly questioned the appointment of Mahmoud Wafa to officiate the match, noting that he had already refereed a previous meeting between the same two teams earlier in the season and, according to the club, made similar controversial decisions in that fixture.

The club also highlighted that the referee had reportedly returned from Libya only hours before the match after participating in a youth tournament there, raising concerns about the rationale behind his appointment.

Al Ahly concluded its complaint by reserving the right to pursue further action through all available channels against the referee and any parties involved.
