The “Jewel” Stadium in Jeddah will host a Saudi football classic tonight, as the Jeddah-based Al Ahli will face Riyadh's Al Hilal in the headline fixture of Matchday 3 in the Saudi Pro League.
For Al Ahli, the clash serves as a crucial rehearsal ahead of their upcoming continental test against Egypt’s Pyramids on Tuesday, also at the Jewel, in the Intercontinental Cup.
Both teams step onto the pitch tonight with the same mission, bouncing back to winning ways after being held to draws in the previous round.
Al Ahli settled for a stalemate against Al Ettifaq, while Al Qadisiyah held Al Hilal in a 2-2 draw.
Still, both clubs had made a strong start to their continental campaigns, with Al Ahli defeating Uzbekistan’s Nasaf and Al Hilal overcoming Qatar’s Al Duhail in the AFC Elite Champions League.
On the domestic front, Al Ahli sit seventh with 4 points. They opened their season by edging Neom 1-0 before being held goalless by Al Ettifaq.
Al Hilal, meanwhile, are positioned fifth, also on 4 points, having beaten Al Riyadh 2-0 in their opener before a 2-2 draw against Al Qadisiyah.
