Manuel Akanji is expected to make his first appearance for Serie A and Inter Milan tomorrow in one of the season’s standout fixtures, a high-stakes showdown against bitter rivals Juventus.
The Swiss defender, Inter’s final signing of the summer transfer window, has joined on loan from Manchester City with an option to buy for €15 million.
He is now set to start in Saturday’s Derby d’Italia.
Inter head coach Cristian Chivu confirmed Akanji’s readiness during Friday’s press conference, describing him as “an important player with international value and stature.” Chivu added that Akanji was fully prepared to contribute immediately.
Inter enter the match with one win and one loss from their opening two Serie A fixtures, while Juventus have made a perfect start with two victories, three goals scored, and none conceded.
Akanji arrives in Milan with an impressive résumé, having lifted two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy during his spell with Manchester City.
He also comes into the clash with recent experience against Juventus, having featured in City’s 5-2 victory over the Turin giants in the Club World Cup group stage in June.
