Former Egypt striker Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam was named as Ismaily's coach for a second spell, the club announced on Tuesday.

Mido will replace Juan Carlos Garrido, who was shown the door two weeks ago due to the team poor's results in the domestic league.

After the Spaniard was sacked, the club appointed former team star Ayman El-Gamal as interim coach. He helped Ismaily claim their solitary league win after defeating Enppi 2-1 but they then slumped to a 1-0 loss to Masry on Sunday.

Ismaily lie 16th in the 18-team table with six points from nine games, on level with bottom side Harras El-Hodoud.

Mido will start his mission with Ismaily in a tough clash against his boyhood club Zamalek on Thursday.

The 39-year-old took charge of Ismaily in July 2015 but left in December of the same year. The Dervishes won five out of nine games under his guidance.

Mido kicked off his coaching career at Zamalek in 2014 and had another brief spell in charge of the Cairo giants in 2016.

During his first spell, he led Zamalek to the Egypt Cup title in 2014.

He also had a spell in charge of Wadi Degla in 2017 before being named as coach of Saudi side Al-Wehda in 2019 but he was sacked after only two months.

He took charge of Maqassa in the summer of 2019 but parted ways with the club in Janauary 2020.
