The Embassy of India in Cairo will be organizing the “Africa Regional Hindi Conference” in Cairo on 8-9 February 2026 on the theme “Hindi for Cultural Connectivity and Cooperation from the Ganges to the Nile” bringing together eminent Hindi scholars, academicians, writers, educators, and Hindi enthusiasts from across the African region and beyond. The conference is being organized in collaboration with Ain Shams University in Cairo. The conference aims to promote the Hindi language globally and strengthen cultural and academic collaboration among participating countries.

The conference will be inaugurated in the august presence of Deputy Minister in Ministry of External Affairs of India, H.E. Ms. Neena Malhotra, Ambassador H.E. Mr. Suresh K. Reddy, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen along with distinguished guests, diplomats, professors, and representatives of leading academic institutions.

The conference will serve as an important platform for dialogue and exchange of ideas on the growing global relevance of Hindi. Hindi, one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, is not merely a means of communication but a carrier of India’s rich cultural heritage, values, literature, and philosophy. The Regional Hindi Conference seeks to further strengthen these efforts by fostering collaboration among scholars and institutions engaged in Hindi studies.

The choice of Cairo, a city of profound historical and cultural significance, underscores the deep-rooted civilizational ties between India and Egypt. Both nations share ancient cultural traditions and have maintained strong diplomatic relations since modern times, including their leadership roles in the Non-Aligned Movement. Today, India and Egypt enjoy a Strategic Partnership, marked by growing cooperation in trade, defense, education, culture, and tourism. The Hindi language adds a unique dimension to this enduring friendship by deepening mutual understanding and cultural exchange.

During the two-day conference, participants will deliberate on a wide range of contemporary and relevant themes, including the role of Hindi in strengthening cultural connectivity; Hindi in international relations and cultural diplomacy; and the influence of Indian cinema.

Maulana Azad Indian Cultural Centre, Cairo, plays a significant institutional role in the promotion and dissemination of the Hindi language and Indian culture. The Centre regularly organizes Hindi language classes, academic workshops, competitions, and cultural programmes, with enthusiastic participation from Egyptian students and admirers of India. Over the past 20 years, more than 2,500 students have enrolled in Hindi courses, and over 2,000 have successfully completed the basic Hindi programme.

The Africa Regional Hindi Conference is expected to significantly contribute to the promotion and enrichment of the Hindi language while further strengthening India’s cultural relations with Egypt and beyond and enhancing people-to-people ties across regions.
