On Wednesday, at least 13 security personnel were killed and 5 others were wounded in an attack by Taliban militants on a military barracks in Pol-e-Khomri city, north-eastern Afghanistan, according to Sputnik News agency.

"The local authorities have not yet commented on the number of victims," Ariana News TV channel reported.

It is noteworthy that, yesterday, Kabul’s Deputy Governor and his secretary were killed in a magnetic IED explosion, according to Interior Ministry spokesman Tarek Arian.

In a statement, he described the attack as a “war crime and inhumane”

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

The Taliban militant group has conducted scores of targeted attacks against civilians and military officials in recent years. The armed outfit considers anyone working for the government, NATO, and U.S.-led troops as a target.

At the end of last February, the US and the "Taliban" movement signed the first peace agreement in Qatar after more than 18 years of war.
