Actress Nadia Rafiq Passes Away Aged 85

Egyptian actress, Nadia Rafiq passed away early Friday at the age of 85. The funeral will take place at the Syriac Catholic Church in Heliopolis at 2:00 pm.

Fadil Kurdi, son of the late actress, had announced her death on his Facebook page.

The late actress has been known for embodying the role of a mother in several plays, series, and films in the period of the 80s, 90s, and the new millennium.

The late actress had taken part in several famed artistic works such as, "Layaly El Helmeya", and Mohamed: the Messenger of God".

Rafiq's last artistic work was in TV series "Bab Al Khalk" co-starring late actor Mahmoud Abdulaziz.

  • The late actress was born on February 8, 1935.

  • She made her way into the entertainment industry in 1934 at the age of eight, through radio, as she loved singing and dancing.

  • Rafiq was registered at the radio as an author at the age of fourteen; she wrote several radio series, the last of which starred Kamal el-Shennawi, and Laila Taher.

  • Renowned radio figure Mohamed Mahmoud Shaaban, famously known as Baba Sharo, had offered her join the TV with an increase 4 times higher than her salary at the radio, however, she refused, fearing the embodiment of kissing scenes and the objections of her family.

  • She was famous for the embodiment of the role of a mother. She represented the mother figure of lots of stars, some even were her same age and some were older than her, including Mohsen Sarhan in the radio series "Samara". She described herself as "a mother to all the actors in Egypt".

  • Renowned director, Aly Badrakhan offered her a role in the movie "Ahl Al Qemma", which she refused at first, but Badrakhan succeeded in convincing her to do the role. It was her first movie debut.
