Zamalek star Achraf Bencharki will run down his contract with the Whites and become a free agent this summer, club president Mortada Mansour has confirmed.
Bencharki started his Zamalek career with a flourish since his move from Saudi giants Al Hilal in July 2019, helping the Cairo giants to four trophies.
Overall, the Moroccan made just over 100 appearances for Zamalek, scoring 39 goals while assisting 26, but a cloud hung over his long-term future in Cairo earlier this season.
Struggling to make the forward sign a new contract and following a shocking defeat to Wydad Casablanca in the Champions League, furious club president Mortada Mansour took a decision of not renewing the contracts of five players, including Achraf Bencharki.
However, months later the club still tried to tie down their star man to a new contract after several reports then linked Bencharki with a move to arch-rivals Al Ahly.
And it looks like Bencharki has made up his mind about leaving the Whites after just three seasons as confirmed by Mortada Mansour on Monday evening.
“We informed Bencharki on Sunday that we are keen on renewing his contract in a meeting with Amir Mortada, but he assured us that he wants to move to another country.
