AC Milan are working to convince veteran Croatian star Luka Modrić to extend his contract for another season, with his current deal set to expire next summer.
The 40-year-old midfielder joined Milan last summer on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Real Madrid. Since arriving at San Siro, Modrić has delivered a series of impressive performances that have strengthened the club’s desire to retain his services.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, there is increasing optimism within Milan that Modrić will agree to a one-year extension.
The report highlights the strong relationship between the player and the head coach, built on mutual respect and trust.
The proposed new deal reportedly includes an option allowing the club to activate an additional year, with a salary of approximately €4.5 million, contingent on Milan securing qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
Modrić recently played a decisive role in Milan’s dramatic 2-1 away victory over Pisa in Serie A, scoring his team’s second goal.
Milan currently sit second in the Serie A table this season, reinforcing the club’s ambition to secure Champions League football and further strengthening their case to keep the experienced Croatian playmaker for another campaign.
