Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala has confirmed that an agreement has been reached with AC Milan and Inter Milan to purchase the historic San Siro Stadium and the surrounding area.
The final decision will be presented to the city council for a vote in the coming days.
Speaking to Sky Italia, Sala said the deal with both clubs is now ready, asserting that the proposal will be submitted to the council tomorrow if everything goes as planned.
The mayor stressed that a new stadium must be completed by 2031, noting that UEFA has already warned Milan will not be considered as a host city for Euro 2032 if San Siro remains in use.
The project will go through several stages, starting with committee discussions before being sent to the full council for approval.
Sala confirmed he will personally support the sale, but emphasized the final say lies with the council, asserting that he will vote for in favor, but the choice will be up to the council.
The vote is expected before the end of September, a move that could definitively shape the future of the legendary stadium that has witnessed decades of triumphs for both Milan and Inter.
