Aboul Gheit welcomes the statement of the heads of the Libyan House of Representatives and the State Council

Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, welcomed the joint statement issued by Aguila Saleh, speaker of Libya's House of Representatives, and Khaled Al-Mishri, head of Libya's Higher Council of State, regarding the constitutional document, under Egyptian auspices, following their discussions in Cairo, Thursday, January 5.

Gamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, expressed the Secretary-General's thanks and appreciation for the efforts of the Arab Republic of Egypt for sponsoring the meetings of the committees concerned with the Libyan constitutional process l, in Egypt over a year and a half, and in the manner that made it possible to prepare this document and refer it to the two councils for approval . 

Rushdi reaffirmed the League of Arab States' continued support for every serious and fair endeavor aimed at supporting the political process in Libya, ending the long-running transitional stages in the country, establishing a state of permanent stability, and initiating the process of construction, reconstruction and development.
