Hassan Shehata was born on June 19, 1947 in Kafr El-Dawwar, Beheira Governorate, Egypt. He began his football career at Zamalek SC in 1966, playing with the team for 14 years, winning several titles, notably the Egyptian League 5 times, the Egypt Cup 4 times, and the African Cup Winners' Cup once.

In 1979, Shehata moved to Kuwait SC, playing with them for 4 years, winning the Kuwaiti League once and the Kuwait Emir Cup 3 times. In 1983, Shehata moved to Al-Arabi SC, playing with them for one season before retiring from football in 1984.

After retiring from football, Shehata moved into coaching, beginning his coaching career with Zamalek SC in 1985. In 1991, Shehata won his first title as a coach with Zamalek SC, the Egypt Cup. In 1992, Shehata won the Egyptian League with Zamalek SC, his first league title as a coach.

In 2004, Shehata was appointed head coach of the Egypt national team. In 2006, Shehata led Egypt to qualify for the FIFA World Cup finals for the first time since 1990. In 2008, Shehata led Egypt to win the Africa Cup of Nations for the fourth time in their history. In 2010, Shehata led Egypt to win the Africa Cup of Nations for the fifth time in their history.

Hassan Shehata is one of the most famous players and coaches in Egyptian history. He has achieved numerous individual and team accolades, and is considered one of the most important figures in Egyptian football.
