Cairo Governor Congratulates Egypt`s U19 World Handball Champions

Major General Khaled Abdel-Aal, Cairo Governor congratulated Egypt’s U-19 handball national team on winning 2019 Men’s Youth World Championship title.

Abdel-Aal confirmed that their victory has brought the happiness to the Egyptian people. Egypt is the first Non-European team wins such championship.

He pointed out that the determination of the youth to delight the Egyptians was the first reason in achieving this great victory.

Abdel-Aal extends heartfelt congratulations to the students of Cairo Education Directorate who participated in the 19 World Handball Championship.

The students are: the third grade secondary students Mazen Reda Abbas, Ebragim Al Sayed Abdek Hameed from Abu Bakr Siddiq School Sports Prep Secondary School for Boys and Omar Ahmed Ateya from Dr. Samir Fahmy Experimental Language School- New Cairo Educational Administration.

The Pharaohs claimed the trophy for the first time in their history with a four-goal win over Germany. They came out on top in the first half with a 19-13 score, before further cementing their lead in the second half as they pulled off a 32-28 win.

The African Champions qualified for the final after defeating Portugal 41-36 on Saturday, whereas Germany advanced to this stage after pulling-off a 31-23 victory over Denmark in the semi-finals.

Both teams reached the final for the first time in their history since the first edition of this tournament, which was held in Qatar in 2005.

The Pharaohs delivered an impressive performance during the tournament as they pulled off four victories over Sweden, Chinese Taipei, Canada, and Hungary in the group stage. Whereas they suffered only one defeat by the defending champions France in their second game at the tournament.

The African Champions made an ideal start to the tournament by defeating Sweden 32-29, before suffering a 28-24 defeat by holders France in the second game.

Egypt crushed Chinese Taipei in their third game with a 36-25 score on Friday. They defeated their rivals Canada with a 47-20 score in the fourth game of the group stage.

Egypt demolished their opponents Hungary with a 31-24 score in the last game of the group stage.

The Pharaohs demolishing Slovenia 30-23 in the last 16, before defeating Iceland 35-31 in the quarter-finals to reach the last 4.

They booked their place in the international tournament after claiming the African Championship title, held in Morocco, where they defeated Tunisia in the final game.
